This week’s substitute: Rice Pasta?

We are all familiar with pasta (Spaghetti and meatballs, my favourite!) but we also are familiar with the carbs in pasta. I have already written about my favourite substitute, Spaghetti Squash but let’s face it sometimes we want actual carbs.

But have you ever heard of rice pasta?

Brown rice pasta is pasta made out of rice! The great thing about this is that it looks like pasta, it cooks like pasta, it even comes packaged like pasta but it’s better than pasta! Brown rice pasta provides about 200 calories per 2-ounce portion of dry pasta, which is almost a half of regular white pasta.

Little substitutes like these can make a difference in your daily macronutrients intake and in your diet! Now don’t expect it to taste exactly as pasta (it is a substitute) but give it a try with some classic tomato and basil sauce and homemade turkey meatballs or cooked ground turkey.
